The True Meaning of Christmas

Amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the true meaning of Christmas is often forgotten. The reason for Christmas is to celebrate the unique birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The babe in the manger was born to die as a substitute for sinful man so that salvation is available to everyone. All may receive the gift of salvation by faith alone in Christ alone. Through His Word, anyone may come to know this unique Savior and discover the true meaning of Christmas.

The True Meaning of Christmas, a special collection of Christmas messages by Pastor R. B. Thieme, Jr., includes the first recorded reading of his poem, “The Night Before Christmas,” in 1959.

Overcoming Self

Self-esteem, a positive and lasting sense of one’s worth, is elusive among the human race. The very self that we wish to esteem is flawed. But when we have spiritual self-esteem, we can look into the mirror of the Word of God and see ourselves as we really are. We can understand and accept our own limitations, because our confidence is based not on personal achievements or merit but on who and what God is. Love for God becomes our highest motivating virtue. Self-delusion and insecurities lose their power, to be replaced by the wisdom of knowing His perfect character, judgment, and plan.

This special selection of lessons covers such topics as personality, finding your niche, solving problems with virtue love, and the characteristics of the believer who “loves his own soul” (Prov. 19:8).

Armor of God

In the spiritual warfare that surrounds us, the Christian soul is a battleground. The devil and his demon armies strive to corrupt our thinking in the most insidious ways. Against these unrelenting attacks God provides a spiritual suit of armor—the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the Gospel boots, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. Clothed with the full armor of God, we have an impregnable defense with which to hold our ground and remain “strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.”

This audio special presents Ephesians 6:10–17, a military metaphor inspired by the combat equipment of ancient Rome. Just as body armor protected the Roman soldier against the slashes and thrusts of enemy weapons, our divine armor protects the Christian soul against the onslaught of our invisible enemies.

Confidence in Crisis

"Save us, Lord; we are perishing!" was the disciples’ cry as their ship rolled and pitched on the stormy Sea of Galilee. Drenched by crashing waves, panicking from sudden fear and helplessness, they abandoned all the doctrine they had previously learned. At times, we are like these disciples. When the storms of life become more real than God’s promises and doctrines, we lose the ability to think under pressure. But God knows every problem, every suffering, every adversity, every storm in our lives. By claiming His promises and reaching doctrinal conclusions, we learn not only to weather any storm but also to relax and enjoy the adventure. God is always in control.

This special collection of lessons covers the events of Matthew 8:18–27 and concludes with a look at Romans 8:28–32, a relevant passage for regaining mental stability in a crisis. Rather than being disturbed by fear or uncertainty, we anchor our confidence in the Lord and remember that God works all things together for His own glory.

Biblical Heroes

Throughout the Old Testament are stories of biblical heroes—men and women whose faith and courage still speak to us after thousands of years. These distinguished believers trusted God in all manner of circumstances. Noah walked with God, one righteous man against a corrupted world. Abraham and Sarah received astonishing divine promises, ultimately learning of God’s faithfulness in hopeless situations. Joseph saved Egypt from famine, Moses led his people out of slavery, Joshua fought the giants, and Rahab the prostitute outwitted the king’s military. These were real people who experienced the grace of God amid real heartaches, trials, and victories, and their testimonies travel down the corridors of time, encouraging us to the same spiritual greatness.

On this audio special, 35 lessons highlight the intrepid lives of more than 20 Old Testament figures. From Job to Jeremiah to the Queen of Sheba, these ancient heroes prove to us the timeless value of Bible doctrine.

Royal Family of God

As Church Age believers, we are members of an eternal, spiritual aristocracy. By grace we are united with Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, and adopted as heirs into the royal family of God. All Christians share this exalted position and privilege, even as they come from vastly different human backgrounds. By following God’s protocol—His standards and procedures revealed in Scripture—we learn to think as royalty and to conduct ourselves with the grace and honor befitting our spiritual status.

This audio special is a selection of lessons describing our Lord’s kingly lineage, the formation and purpose of the royal family, and the virtuous guidelines of the royal family honor code.

A Conflict of Powers

A Conflict of Powers describes the reality of our world today. Behind the dramatic contrasts of virtue and arrogance, love and hate, truth and deception are invisible systems of power ("dynaspheres") that influence man's thinking. Since all humanity is inherently weak, we receive our strength, for good or for evil, from the power system in which we choose to reside. In the system designed by God, the divine dynasphere, we find an inexhaustible supply of spiritual strength that offers wisdom and blessing for every circumstance. But inside Satan's alternative, the cosmic dynaspheres, our weaknesses are exploited and our decisions entangle us in a web of sin, misery, and satanic deceit.

This audio special is a selection of lessons that explain the origin of the word "dynasphere," describe the functions of Satan's cosmic system, and reveal the believer's superior way of life in the divine dynasphere.

Solving People Problems

Human relationships are an intense source of testing in the Christian life. No one is perfect; we are all flawed with our own limitations, quirks, and sinful tendencies. Therefore, every interaction with people—in family, friendships, romance, business, church—is an opportunity for problems. No sooner will someone attract and flatter us than someone else irritate or criticize. The challenge is to keep our eyes fixed firmly upon the Lord and His Word while demonstrating an attitude of thoughtfulness and grace toward others. With Bible doctrine in the soul and impersonal love for all mankind, we gain the wisdom and virtue to resolve every problem of friendship and enmity, attraction and aversion, love and hate.

This audio special is a compilation of lessons that teach spiritual solutions to people problems. Learn the differences between personal and impersonal love, the fallacy of depending on others, and the blessings of knowing God and loving Him above all else.

The Riches of His Grace

As believers in Jesus Christ we are spiritual billionaires, wealthy beneficiaries of the vast riches of God’s grace. Along with our so-great salvation, we possess spiritual assets and privileges of unprecedented magnitude. This tremendous wealth, “which He lavished upon us” (Eph. 1:7–8), is never earned or deserved. Our life, our daily and spiritual sustenance, our surpassing blessings of eternity are received because of who and what God is—entirely apart from our own efforts, work, energy, or morality. By learning and applying God’s Word, we gain the capacity to appreciate and capitalize on the fantastic riches of His grace.

This audio special is a compilation of lessons that address God’s unmerited favor toward mankind before, during, and after salvation; man’s intrusion into the grace policy of God through arrogance and legalism; and the grace-oriented believer’s response to God with humility, teachability, and graciousness toward others.

A Far Greater Happiness

“Happy are those who hear the word of God, and observe it.” With these few words, our Lord defined true happiness (Luke 11:28). It is the attitude of a believer learning and applying Bible doctrine. It is a secure and enduring contentment, undisturbed by difficulty, free from dependence upon life’s details. It is an inner joy, drawn from the wellspring of God’s own happiness and far greater than the relative and momentary pleasures the world offers. It is capacity to enjoy prosperity and to withstand adversity. As this incomparable happiness fills the believer’s soul, he rejoices in every day as “the day which the Lord has made” (Psalm 118:24).

This audio special is a compilation of lessons addressing the source of genuine happiness, the frailties of human happiness, and the believer’s ultimate objective: sharing the happiness of God.

Blessing in Suffering

No suffering in life is too great for the plan of God. In fact, God intends for us to have blessing in the very midst of suffering. The pain, the heartaches, the difficulties of life are designed to stretch us beyond our human resources and confront us with our total dependence on the grace of God. They direct our attention to the things that are important in life—fellowship with God, learning the Word, growing in grace. When in suffering we draw upon the doctrinal resources in our souls and use the assets God has given us, we realize that God is “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1). Our love for Him grows stronger, we develop perseverance and confidence in the spiritual life, and we achieve a higher plane of spiritual growth.

This audio special is a compilation of lessons that address the categories and purposes of suffering, the divine solutions to adversity, and the marvelous blessings enjoyed by the believer in undeserved suffering.

The Divine Institution of Marriage

When God created the first man and woman, He placed them in the idyllic Garden of Eden and established the divine institution of marriage (Gen. 2:24). This sublime union set the precedence of matrimony for believers and unbelievers alike.

Marriage was designed by God to be encapsulated within an integrity envelope of virtue love. In the biblical view of marriage, true personal love between a man and a woman cannot flourish without adherence to God’s mandates. These divine rules govern the responsibility of the husband toward his wife and the wife toward her husband. This audio special also includes lessons on the biblical view of aggressive and responding love and Christian marriage—the corporate testimony.

Deliverance in National Crisis Volume 4: Authority and Freedom

Whether the leaders of a nation are hereditary kings or rulers in a republic, their authority has but one source—“For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God” (Romans 13:1b). Governmental authority derives its power not from the people but from God. God ordained that these rulers obey and defend the laws of divine establishment, which protect our freedom of self-determination, privacy, property, and life.

If unjust leaders abuse their divinely delegated power, we are still exhorted to obey their authority. When we render due honor and obedience “for the Lord’s sake to every human institution” (1 Peter 2:13), we honor the Lord and contribute to our nation’s stability.

Authority and Freedom, the fourth collection in the Deliverance in National Crisis audio specials, is a compilation of lessons that address national leadership, the proper balance of law and liberty, false political and economic tenets, and the believer’s patriotic responsibility to the country.

Deliverance in National Crisis Volume 3: The Trends of History

As we move through life, we are involved in the ebb and flow of history. Nations and civilizations cycle through inevitable periods of ascendancy and decline, economic prosperity and depression, war and peace, abundance and famine, blessing and cursing. Only with the divine viewpoint from the Word of God can we properly interpret the up and down trends of history and find blessing and stability amid the tumultuous events of our times.

The Trends of History, the third collection in the Deliverance in National Crisis audio specials, is a compilation of lessons that address historical trends, interpretations of both ancient and modern history, the rise and fall of nations, and God’s faithful provision for the believer in time of crisis.

Deliverance in National Crisis Volume 2: The Believer’s Impact

As goes the believer, so goes the client nation. We as believers in Jesus Christ have a tremendous responsibility to our country to obey the laws of divine establishment and persist in our advance to spiritual maturity. In this way, we will become invisible heroes with a powerful, unheralded, positive impact on our nation and on human history.

A client nation’s vigor, prosperity, and survival depend upon the pivot of mature believers who reside within its borders. A large pivot means national blessing and prosperity; a shrinking pivot means divine judgment and eventual destruction of the apostate nation. Yet whether facing national catastrophe or national deliverance, the mature believer oriented to the reality of doctrine is stabilized, safe, and secure in God’s plan.

The Believer’s Impact, the second collection in the Deliverance in National Crisis audio specials, is a compilation of lessons that address the blessings, impact, and characteristics of the invisible hero; divine solutions for the believer in disaster; the pivot’s influence on national survival; and God’s deliverance in historical adversity.

Deliverance in National Crisis

Today our client nation faces an overwhelming number of spiritual, economic, political, military, and social challenges. Terrorism, natural disasters, destruction of free enterprise, attacks on privacy and property, exorbitant taxes, apostasy in the pulpit, and the degradation of our society present a panorama of national crisis. What is the believer to do in the midst of this national degeneracy and decline?

The true hope of any nation rests solely in the grace of God and the pivot of mature believers with Bible doctrine in their souls. In times of adversity and historical crisis, the Lord always delivers individuals or nations faithful to Him. He honors those who consistently learn and apply His Word. This audio special is a compilation of lessons covering a wide range of doctrines related to the national entity, economy, and warfare, as taught by Pastor R. B. Thieme, Jr., throughout nearly five decades of American history.

The Power of the Resurrection

The Power of the Resurrection solves the problems of physical and spiritual death. Three days after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the omnipotence of God reunited the soul and spirit of our Lord in a resurrection body. The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and guarantees our own resurrection is now available to every Church Age believer. But do you know how to appropriate that power to mobilize your spiritual life?

On this audio special, Pastor R. B. Thieme, Jr., explores resurrection dynamics which include related topics on the special deliverance of mankind, Palm Sunday politics, the week of the crucifixion, ritual without reality, the judgment of believers and unbelievers, and political versus spiritual solutions.
