“Happy are those who hear the word of God, and observe it.” With these few words, our Lord defined true happiness (Luke 11:28). It is the attitude of a believer learning and applying Bible doctrine. It is a secure and enduring contentment, undisturbed by difficulty, free from dependence upon life's details. It is an inner joy, drawn from the wellspring of God's own happiness and far greater than the relative and momentary pleasures the world offers. It is capacity to enjoy prosperity and to withstand adversity. As this incomparable happiness fills the believer's soul, he rejoices in every day as “the day which the Lord has made” (Psalm 118:24).
