Whether the leaders of a nation are hereditary kings or rulers in a republic, their authority has but one source—“For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God” (Romans 13:1b). Governmental authority derives its power not from the people but from God. God ordained that these rulers obey and defend the laws of divine establishment, which protect our freedom of self-determination, privacy, property, and life.
If unjust leaders abuse their divinely delegated power, we are still exhorted to obey their authority. When we render due honor and obedience “for the Lord's sake to every human institution” (1 Peter 2:13), we honor the Lord and contribute to our nation's stability.
Authority and Freedom, the fourth collection in the Deliverance in National Crisis audio specials, is a compilation of lessons that address national leadership, the proper balance of law and liberty, false political and economic tenets, and the believer's patriotic responsibility to the country.
